September Furlough Deadline

September Furlough Deadline

Sue Lucas

Furlough claims made in September 2021 must be submitted to HMRC by Thursday 14 October 2021. This is the last opportunity to claim from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) which ended on 30 September 2021.

You can make a claim by clicking here.

If you have missed deadlines for claim periods from 1 November 2020, HMRC may accept late claims if you have:
  • A reasonable excuse
  • Taken reasonable care to try and claim on time
  • Claimed without delay as soon as you were able to

Examples of reasonable excuses would be:
  • A close relative or your partner died shortly before the claim deadline
  • You had an unexpected stay in hospital that prevented you from dealing with your claim
  • You had a serious or life-threatening illness, including Coronavirus related illnesses, which prevented you from making your claim (and no one else could claim for you)
  • A period of self-isolation prevented you from making your claim (and no one else could make the claim for you)
  • Your computer or software failed just before or while you were preparing your online claim
  • Service issues with HMRC online services prevented you from making your claim
  • A fire, flood or theft prevented you from making your claim
  • Postal delays that you could not have predicted prevented you from making your claim
  • Delays related to a disability you have prevented you from making your claim
  • An HMRC error prevented you from making your claim

If you have missed the deadline and have a reasonable excuse, you should use the service as normal. You can submit a request from the page where you choose your claim month. You should do this as soon as you’re ready to make your claim but only after the claim deadline has passed.

If you have claimed the wrong amount you can find out what to do if you have claimed too much.

If you have not claimed enough, you will have 28 days from the end of the month the claim was made in to amend and increase the claim. Furloughed employees still should have been paid the correct amount, to increase your claim from HMRC you should contact them here.

If your claim for September 2021 needs amending, it must be amended by 11:59pm on 28 October 2021.
