Scams linked to Companies House
Companies House have released a warning to users saying that they have received multiple reports of people receiving letters claiming to be from Companies House. The letters claim that the user is required to pay for ‘enhanced web filing access’.
Companies House have confirmed this is a scam and if you receive a letter you should not follow any of the instructions given in the letter.

We recommend you follow the guidance available to keep yourself safe from Companies House scams and be sceptical when receiving suspicious communications such as; emails and telephone calls, in particular if you are being asked to provide sensitive information, or make changes to payments.
We have provided, below, some recent examples of scams linked to Companies House and suggestions on how to identify whether a form of suspicious communication that appears to be from Companies House may be a scam, or not. Always contact Companies House using the contact information on their website, if you are concerned, or unsure.
Late filing penalty payment
Companies House will not contact you for immediate payment of a late filing penalty or request payment of a nominal fee to place a hold on any recovery action.
Payment plans are set up with the account manager's agreement. They will not cold call you to take a payment.
Asking for your authentication code
Companies House will never ask you for an authentication code over the phone.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Companies House and asking for an authentication code, report this to Companies House, at 0303 1234 500, and provide the number that called you.
Scam emails
Companies House will not request sensitive information from you by email.
Do not respond to suspicious communication such emails and do not open any attachments or click on any links within the email. Delete the email from your system and report it to Companies House at [email protected].
If you are unsure, as to whether or not the email is genuine, contact Companies House using the contact information on their website.
Scam letters
This is an example of a scam letter asking for payment.
Do not visit any webpage, links or scan a QR code included in letters you are concerned about and do not make any payments to the details provided.
Contact Companies House immediately on 0303 1234 500 if you receive a suspicious letter. Never pay any money to the sender.
