£1,000 Christmas grant for wet-led pubs

£1,000 Christmas grant for wet-led pubs

Stuart Datlen

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced an additional £1,000 grant for “wet-led pubs” in tiers 2 and 3 who will unfortunately not have the opportunity to open or operate fully during the Christmas holiday period.

This grant will be a one-off payment for December and will be in addition to the current £3,000 monthly cash grants for businesses. The grants purpose is to help businesses make ends meet while their income is affected. These two grants are supported by the extension of the CJRS furlough scheme and the business rates holiday which both will currently run until March 31.

Eligible “wet-led pubs” in tiers 2 and 3 are invited to apply for this support through their local authority who will responsible for distributing the grants. This grant is for the month of December only.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said “ While we can’t make up for all the trade they will lose over Christmas, I hope this new £1000 grant- on top of the furlough, VAT and business rates relief and existing grants, goes some way to help them weather the economic storm.”

With a review of the tier levels expected by 16 December, there is anticipation from businesses in stricter areas that they might have some constraints lifted as the vaccine has started to be distributed. The government has been consistent with offering grants and support since the initial lockdown and tiers were introduced and hopefully will continue to do so.
