Accountants put best foot forward

Rachel Thomas

Accountants at Moore East Midlands in Peterborough and Corby set themselves a challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day in January.

Staff Partner Mick Lumsden, who spearheaded the initiative said: “This challenge is part of a series of activities across Moore aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of staff while having some fun while we do so!  We recognise that accountants spend a lot of time just sitting and I noticed that the NHS recommends 10,000 steps a day.  I was delighted that so many of the team rose to the challenge.”

Partner Pete Simons was the overall challenge winner, managing a very impressive 10k steps for 31 consecutive days, and won £100 to donate to a charity of his choice.  Said Pete: “This was tough to complete, but having so many others in the firm taking the challenge as well really helped to motivate me!”  Pete is donating his winnings to the firm’s charity of the year, the Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Payroll Assistant Debbie Mitchell was awarded a special ‘runners up’ prize of £25 worth of sports vouchers for completing the highest number of steps overall.  Although she didn’t quite manage to achieve 10k steps every day in January, she clocked up an incredible 381,535 steps over the month.
