The deadline to pay deferred VAT is only a week away

The deadline to pay deferred VAT is only a week away

April Foster

The VAT Deferral New Payment Scheme has now closed for applications with the final deadline to pay the liability in full being a week away.

You should contact HMRC if you were unable to pay your VAT in full by 31 March 2021 or join the payment scheme which ended on 21 June 2021.

If you do not pay your liability, you may be charged a 5% penalty or interest if you do not pay in full or make an arrangement to pay by 30 June 2021.

Before contacting HMRC, you must:
  • have your VAT registration number
  • submit any outstanding VAT returns – otherwise you will not be able to ask for an arrangement to pay
  • know how much you owe – including the amount you originally deferred and how much you may have already paid
If you are still unable to pay and need more time you can read more by looking at the guidance on paying HMRC.

For more information about the upcoming deadline you can view the guidance here.
