Anyone for a wall?

Duncan Swift

The Restructuring & Insolvency team are delighted to announce that Duncan Swift, a partner at Moore, has been appointed Deputy Vice President of R3, the insolvency and restructuring trade body with effect from 7 July 2017.

For those of you who are not familiar with the organisation, R3 represents the UK’s insolvency, restructuring, advisory and turnaround professionals. Its work includes: technical support for members; education and conferences; training and networking opportunities; public affairs, press and policy work; and, issuing guidance for businesses and individuals. R3’s members can be found in firms of all sizes and types across the UK.

“It is a great honour to be asked to step up to be one of the leaders of the insolvency and restructuring profession at this challenging time for the UK economy. I look forward to continuing to advocate the great work of R3 and maintain the world-class status of the UK’s insolvency and restructuring framework.”

Duncan has over 30 years’ experience in restructuring and insolvency and has been a member of R3 for almost as long. Besides his significant experience in rescuing nursing/care homes, charity and not-for-profit organisations he is also a nationally recognised food supply sector specialist.

With an MSc degree in Agricultural Business Management, Duncan has extensive experience assisting financially challenged food production (agriculture, horticulture) and food processing businesses across the UK. Advocating good corporate governance in supermarket/supplier dealings, he has been widely quoted in the media in relation to Tesco’s accounts and the Groceries Code Adjudicator’s investigation.

Duncan was elected as a member of the R3 Council in 2015 and currently chairs the membership committee. His new role of Deputy Vice President continues until April 2018 when the one-year term of existing R3 President, Adrian Hyde of CVR Global LLP, comes to an end. Natural progression then promotes current Vice President, Stuart Frith of Stephenson Harwood LLP, to President and Duncan to Vice President.  And yes, you guessed it; we will have our very own ‘President Swift’ in April 2019.

In direct contrast to President Trump’s plans to build walls, Duncan’s focus will more likely be on pulling them down, by addressing R3’s challenges to gain government and public understanding and acceptance of the profession and the good work its members perform.

I’m sure you will all join me in congratulating Duncan on achieving this appointment and wish him every success in his endeavours over the coming years.
