Clients appreciate James’s in-depth understanding and the significant experience he has developed over nearly 30 years working with charities. James ensures that he is easily available to meet the needs of his clients and takes care to explain issues in a way that they easily understand and appreciate. He often attends trustee meetings and audit committee meetings to present the results of the firm's work and to act as a sounding board for clients’ concerns.

James deals primarily with charities, particularly arts organisations and museums, learned societies, religious charities, schools, colleges and academies. He also works with commercial clients in music publishing and property, as well as some owner-managed businesses and private clients.

James is attached to the specialist VAT unit within the firm and advises his audit clients on VAT matters on a regular basis. He also undertakes specialist VAT reviews, with a particular focus on the nonprofit sector.

Away from the office, James is a trustee of two small charities, churchwarden of one of the City churches and a governor at a sixth-form college in Hackney.

James is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Poulters and of the Lime Street Ward Club. A keen amateur musician, having played the organ since childhood, he is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists.
